Weekday Swims

VENTURA

When: 

Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7:00am.  Watch your Hotflash email for more details as well as cancellations when needed.

 

Where:          

 

We park in the state beach parking lot off of Harbor Blvd, located near the end of San Jon Rd and directly south of the Ventura Pier.  Please gather near the restrooms at the entrance to the parking lot and we will walk as a group to the south side of the pier to begin our swim!  Parking costs approximately $2 per hour.

 


Route and Distance:

 

We will swim just past the break water on the south side of the pier and then along the shore to the second or third jetty and back.  The length of the total swim depends on the consensus of the group.  We will regroup at each jetty to keep the group together as much as we can.  This is an easy paced swim and no one will be left behind.


The water temperature is usually in the mid 50's.  Wetsuits are recommended for this workout..


Please make sure that you have some open water swim experience before attempting this workout.  This is a swim at your own risk workout. 


Non Rincon Triathlon Club members will be required to sign a liability waiver proir to participation.  You can print and sign a copy of the waiver (attached to the membership application) available to download form the membership info page on our website.  www.rincontriclub.com  We will try to have extra waivers on hand.


Important safety information for all open water swims:

We HIGHLY RECOMMEND reading the USMS Open Water manuals for safety and workout tips at

It is important that you wear a bright colored swim cap for high visibility.  This is for your safety and the ability of all swimmers to see each other in the water. 

Optional items to bring are a swimming wetsuit, a neoprene swim cap, a warm drink in a thermos for before and after the swim, body glide to reduce chaffing, a gallon jug of warm water to rinse off with, and warm clothes for after the swim.

Please note that this training opportunity is independent and at your own risk.  This workout is for intermediate to advanced ability level swimmers who want to train together for various events.  PLEASE make sure you have adequate pool workout time before attempting Open Water swimming.
