Club Workout Schedule

SATURDAY WEEKEND RIDES: All rides start at 8:00am

SATURDAY WEEKEND RIDES: All rides start at 8:00am

Please be adequately prepared for all rides. Bring fluids and food such as Powerbars (I like chocolate best) or Clif Bars. Bring enough supplies to change at least two flats.

If you plan to cut a ride short, please know the route and use the buddy system. Plan ahead and find a partner to ride with. Any suggested short ride options below are not staffed by Rincon Board members. We cannot guarantee that any ride mentioned will have a Rincon Board member present. Please ride safely, obey the rules of the road, be courteous, and for heavens sake, only pass on the left. When in doubt, ask one of the oldies (oops, I mean seasoned veterans) whether you are doing something correctly. Remember that when riding, your carelessness is dangerous to others.

FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

ZUMA RIDE: Las Posas road in Camarillo to Zuma Beach and back.

Approximately 50 miles. This is an out and back ride so you may turn around at any point for a shorter ride option. A common short ride option is to turn around at Neptune’s Net Seafood Restaurant. This turn around point will give you about a 34 mile ride.

To get to the starting location, take 101 from either the north or south. Exit at Las Posas road in Camarillo. Heading North on 101, exit and make a right off the freeway. Heading South, exit and make a left off the freeway and proceed over the bridge. Go through the first light on the north side of the freeway and turn right into the Ralphs shopping center. Be there by 8:00 or we won’t be there.

Level of difficulty: Easy to moderate. Mostly flat with some rollers. There is often traffic however the shoulders appear to be descen and somewhat roomyt.

SECOND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

CASITAS PASS: This is a loop beginning and ending at the Sanjon road parking lot under the freeway bridge in Ventura.

Approximately 42 miles. The ride heads north along the Ventura river by way of the bike path until we reach Foster Park. Head west and follow Santa Rosa Road all the way to the lake. Turn left on highway 150 and go all the way (past the pigeon poop sign) to Bates road in Carpinteria. Turn left and head down to the freeway. Turn on to the freeway and follow the freeway until you reach the Seacliff exit ramp. Exit and proceed back to Ventura by way of Highway 1. This loop ride has challenging hills, long descents, freeways, and narrow shoulders. Out and back options are available and the following is highly encouraged for beginners. Starting with the group, ride out to the Casitas Lake park entrance. Turn around and come back for about 30 miles.

Level of difficulty: Moderate to advanced. Challenging hills, long descents, and a narrow shoulder make this a challenging ride.

THIRD SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

SANTA PAULA OJAI LOOP: This ride goes east to Santa Paula, up highway 150 and into Ojai. From Ojai, the group often makes a decision to either head back down the bike path to Ventura or take a few side roads that eventually meet up with the bike path and then heads back in to Ventura. Either way, this is a great ride. This ride is approximately 50 miles. This ride begins and ends at the Sanjon road parking lot under the freeway bridge in Ventura. The ride is mostly flat out to Santa Paula and then there is a big hill as you traverse up highway 150. There are some long descents and the final 10 or so miles are flat as we head back into Ventura by way of the bike path. Out and back options are available and the following is highly encouraged for beginners. After heading east to Santa Paula with the group, turn around in Santa Paula and head back the same way in which you went out. This short option is about 25 miles.

Level of difficulty: Easy to moderate. .

FOURTH SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

POLO FIELDS: This ride takes you up the coast with breathtaking views of the ocean and the occasional wiff of a horrible smelling dumpster along the Rincon. The occasional site of dolphins more than make up for the smell of the dumpster. This ride is approximately 40 miles. This ride begins and ends at the Sanjon road parking lot under the freeway bridge in Ventura. The ride is mostly flat except for one small hill as you climb up to Bates road just past the county line heading north. There is some cycling that takes place along the freeway so in my rating below, this ride will receive a rating of moderate even though the terrain is appropriate for the beginner. Out and back options are available and the following is highly encouraged for beginners. After heading north and passing most of the Rincon by way of highway 1 (not much traffic), turn around at the fire station. This is about a 20 mile ride, round trip, to and from the fire station.

Level of difficulty: Easy to moderate. Mostly flat however there is cycling on the freeway for those that go as far as Bates road. If you turn around at the fire station, this would be an easy ride.

FIFTH SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

MYSTERY RIDE: Watch your Hotflash emails for the latest info on the ride for this week. The mileage should be around 40-50 miles. The Rincon Board is always open to suggestions for this ride.
